A truly thoughtful question
I heard it yesterday while attending the funeral for a 30 year old man who died of a fentanyl overdose. The pain in the funeral home was palpable. It was etched on the faces of loved ones. This young man had been clean for an entire year, before he hooked up with some old buddies and took the fentanyl.
His Aunt delivered the eulogy. It was she who asked the most poignant question I've ever heard at a funeral. She said the night before, she looked up and asked the young man who had passed away what he would have wanted to say. She was certain his answer would have been 'I'm sorry'.
It was one of the most powerful expressions of regret I've ever heard. You see, this young man 'would' have surely been sorry to have lost his life and to see the pain and suffering his loved ones will now endure for years to come. He didn't want to end his life. He just made a mistake.
It's no different than the teenagers involved in that horrible tragedy this past weekend in Calgary. They made a mistake, and it has led to unspeakable consequences.
I have to pace myself when handling the grief of others. It's why today, I'll have a busy but quiet day.
At this moment, I am not in any personal grief. As I've shared with you before, 'any day' I'm not wrought with emotional turmoil is quite simply the best day ever.
Take care Friends.
