My inner hippie

That's what I'm doing today. I have to find a 'hippie outfit' for for Tiara Classic Golf Tournament, which I joyfully em-cee every June. I need my outfit now, for a picture that will be placed in the Edmonton Sun.

Here's the thing; I'm a purger, so if I ever had any hippie type clothes, they're long gone. Not only that, the hippie era was before my time. I recall as a child, being terrified of these so-called 'love children'. You see, back in St. Brides Alberta, an Irish Catholic farming community, we really never had any hippies. I believe the first time I saw one in the flesh was on a family vacation we took to Jasper when I was 6 years old. We saw hippie after hippie hitch hiking on the highway, and I was convinced they were all.......axe murderers.

I think I got that from seeing things in the newspaper or on television. (I was apparently a newsie even back then!) The hippies I saw that summer ALL looked so different from the folks back in St. Brides. They were EVERYWHERE in Jasper and Banff, strumming guitars, smoking odd smelling......lettuce, and often asking for money.

Today, I of course have a much better understanding of the hippie culture. After googling how to dress like one, I also have a pretty good idea of how to dress for my Edmt Sun photo shoot. I just have to find the stuff.

Perhaps I'll find something in Drayton Valley. I'm off to the Municipal Library there tomorrow. I'll be there between 2-4 with my book 'The Gift of Adultery'. Looking forward to both the road trip and the visit!
