True Blue Gala
Good Thursday morning!
Had a lovely evening out at the True Blue Gala for the Edmt Police Service. I even met a couple of old friends; the inimitable Brian Hall of 630 CHED and Darryl McIntyre of CTV news. Edmonton's media world is really quite small, and many of us know each other. It was wonderful to catch up with both of them.
We were joined at our table by the tallest police officer I've ever seen in my life! Sergeant Pat was SO interesting! Among other things, he told us it was surreal marching on Jasper Avenue when Constable Woodall was killed earlier this year. He said the officers could literally feel the 'love and support' of those who were watching. He pointed out that usually police officers only see people who DON'T want to see them-----the 'bad guys'. He said that seeing the outpouring of compassion and thanks bolstered all the officers.
It was a great night and I'm anxious to get back to more police work. To that end, I've been invited to go for a 'ride along' with city police. This is where you walk the beat for an entire shift to see what sorts of things officers deal with every day and night. All I have to do is pass a security clearance first. The young officer who invited me asked 'that isn't going to be a problem, is it?' I said ONLY if I wanted to bring along my best guy pal Danny Hooper.
Book signing in Red Deer Saturday, (Sunworks Home and Garden Ltd) and a book reading/signing at the Rochester Library next Tuesday! See you there!
